$150 000 for the Acadian Peninsula Hospital Foundations for the fight against COVID-19

As part of its COVID-19 relief initiative to support front-line workers in the fight against the pandemic, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Foundation has contributed $50,000 per institution in the Acadian Peninsula as part of its COVID-19 Community Hospital Fund. The Fondation Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus de Caraquet, La Fondation de l’Hôpital de Lamèque Inc. and the Fondation de l’Hôpital de Tracadie are therefore very proud to confirm that automatic doors and an outdoor shelter will be possible thanks to this important donation and a partnership with Vitalité Health Network.

Several changes have been made to our hospitals over the past few months in order to continue to offer health care services safely during this pandemic period, but the main challenge remains the single point of entry for our institutions in the Acadian Peninsula. The project therefore includes modifications to the main entrances of the targeted establishments in order to install automatic doors that will prevent contact, always with the goal of better protecting our patients, visitors and staff during this difficult period. In addition, a shelter with pre-established space between people will help prevent the transmission of COVID-19 and other contagious diseases while protecting our patients and visitors from the weather. The Foundations are very grateful for this support which once again improves the delivery of health care and services in our region.

The CMA Foundation announced the creation of the COVID-19 Community Hospital Fund as part of its commitment to provide COVID-19 relief. The $5 million fund is helping hospitals with fewer than 100 beds across Canada adapt to the crisis through activities, equipment and training to improve staff well-being, improve access to care and preparedness for future pandemics.

“I am inspired every day by the dedication of the doctors, health care providers and all hospital workers as they continue to confront the COVID-19 pandemic head-on,” says Allison Seymour, President of the CMA Foundation. “We know these are extraordinary times that require extraordinary support. From managing evolving health care needs to address changing care needs in your community, to ensuring the proper equipment or training for your staff, our hope is that these funds will have a positive impact as you continue to meet the challenges of the pandemic.”

The CMA Foundation, the charitable arm of the Canadian Medical Association, provides impactful charitable giving that furthers excellence in health care. To date, the Foundation has contributed more than $30 million in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
