May 12, 2021 – The population of the Chaleur and Acadian Peninsula regions responded to the call to mobilize for the fight against cancer and for the continuous improvement of health care at home first. The Roses Radiothon, an event organized by the Acadie-Bathurst Hospital Foundations, was held on Friday, April 30, and this fifteenth edition, whose objective was $175,000, was largely achieved by raising the record amount of more than $239,503.
The Radiothon was broadcast on CKLE 92.9, CKRO 97.1 and MAX 104.9 radio stations throughout the day. We were able to hear many testimonials to demonstrate the importance of health care at home first.
The chairpersons, Mona Losier, Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation, Joseph Lanteigne and Annie Gauvin, Fondation Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus of Caraquet, Marie-Jeanne Noël, La Fondation de l’Hôpital de Lamèque Inc. and Eric Robichaud, Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital of Tracadie were all on the job in their communities on the day of the Rose Radiothon and all agree that “We are very touched by the response of our communities. Despite the pandemic, we promised that we would be there, more than ever. Last year, most of the activities surrounding the Roses Radiothon were cancelled due to the pandemic, but we are back in full force to support the people in our community who are continuing their battle against cancer. Last year, most of the activities surrounding the Roses Radiothon were cancelled due to the pandemic, but we are back in full force to support the people in our community who are continuing their battle against cancer. In addition, we must thank our partners, l’Acadie Nouvelle, CKLE 92.9, CKRO 97.1 and Max 104.9 who supported us in the broadcasting of the event.”
Dr. John LeBlanc, in his testimony added, “For our hospitals, fundraising campaigns such as the Roses Radiothon, not only allows us to become leaders, but also to put forward new initiatives that would not otherwise be possible. For example, the acquisition of a very sophisticated ultrasound will be dedicated to breast ultrasound and we are the first in the province to acquire it at the Chaleur Regional Hospital. In addition, the Roses Radiothon allows hospitals of the Acadian Peninsula to acquire equipment specific to the needs of health care institutions. For Caraquet, investments will be made in the rehabilitation, medical imaging and medicine sectors. For Lamèque, it is a contribution to the expansion project at the Family Medicine Unit (FMU) and in Tracadie, palliative care, the endoscopy clinic and the electrodiagnostic clinic will receive funding.
This new record amount now represents over $2.6 million that has been raised over the years. The donations raised truly make a difference in people’s lives by providing access to quality health care close to home.
